What is a ZATCA e-invoicing system?
A ZATCA e-invoicing system is software that issues and keeps your tax invoices in the electronic form set by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. Phase 1, known as Generation, has applied since 4 December 2021. Since then, VAT-registered businesses in Saudi Arabia have had to issue and store invoices electronically through a compliant solution, and every simplified tax invoice carries a QR code the buyer can scan.
Phase 2, known as Integration, connects your invoicing directly to ZATCA. It rolls out in waves from 1 January 2023, grouped by revenue, and ZATCA notifies each business before its wave begins. Invoices are then produced as XML in the UBL 2.1 format, carry a cryptographic stamp and pass through the Fatoora platform. Daftarix is built for both phases, so you do not need to change systems when your wave arrives.
Built around the Saudi tax invoice.
Standard and simplified invoices
Issue standard tax invoices to business buyers and simplified tax invoices to consumers, each following the rules for its type.
QR codes
Each simplified tax invoice carries a QR code, added when the invoice is issued, so your customer can scan it and read the key details.
XML in UBL 2.1
For Phase 2, every invoice is produced in the XML format ZATCA uses, alongside the readable copy you send to your customer.
Cryptographic stamp
Phase 2 invoices are signed with a cryptographic stamp, which lets ZATCA confirm the invoice has not been changed after it was issued.
Fatoora integration
Standard invoices are cleared through ZATCA’s Fatoora platform before reaching the buyer, and simplified invoices are reported within 24 hours.
SAR and 15% VAT
Lines, VAT at 15% and totals in Saudi Riyals carry straight over from the accepted quotation, so nothing is typed twice.

What is ZATCA e-invoicing?
ZATCA e-invoicing, also called Fatoora, is the Saudi requirement to issue and keep tax invoices electronically. The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority introduced it in two phases: Generation from 4 December 2021 and Integration in waves from 1 January 2023.
Does Daftarix support ZATCA Phase 2?
Yes. Daftarix is built for ZATCA e-invoicing requirements in both phases. For Phase 2 it produces XML invoices with a cryptographic stamp and connects to ZATCA’s Fatoora platform for clearance and reporting.
Do VAT-registered businesses need an e-invoicing system?
Yes. Since Phase 1 began on 4 December 2021, VAT-registered businesses in Saudi Arabia must issue and keep tax invoices electronically through a compliant solution. Phase 2 integration then follows in waves, on a date ZATCA notifies in advance.
What is the difference between a standard and a simplified tax invoice?
A standard tax invoice is issued to a business buyer and, under Phase 2, is cleared by ZATCA before the buyer receives it. A simplified tax invoice is issued to a consumer, carries a QR code and is reported to ZATCA within 24 hours.
Is there a free ZATCA invoicing system?
Daftarix is lifetime free for one user, and that includes quotations and tax invoices along with the CRM and the help desk. Teams with more than one user can ask us for pricing.
Can I issue ZATCA invoices in Arabic and English?
Yes. Daftarix works in Arabic with a right-to-left layout and in English, so you can prepare each invoice in the language your customer reads while every user picks their own interface language.
